Soder calls for reform of corporate and inheritance taxes

"We need tax rates comparable to those in other countries," said bavaria’s minister-president on monday evening at the annual reception of the bundesverband mittelstandische wirtschaft in berlin. With regard to tax cuts for companies in other countries, soder said that this was a "millstone around the neck" for german companies. It’s all about competitiveness.

Soder also called for relief on energy prices. Inheritance tax also needs to be fundamentally reformed; up to now, there have been disadvantages for family businesses. Soder said that he wanted companies to remain in the family in the next generation and not to go to foreign investors.

CDU, CSU and SPD leaders to meet on wednesday. At the coalition committee, the SPD wants to talk about a higher minimum wage and billions in investments in transportation networks, schools and hospitals, for example, as SPD leader norbert walter-borjans said on monday.

Before that, however, highly indebted municipalities were to be freed from their old debts so that investment funds could also flow away. Walter-borjans had previously spoken out in favor of reducing the tax burden on small and medium incomes.

The union and business associations have long been calling for a comprehensive reform of corporate taxation with lower tax rates. But this meets with resistance from the SPD.
