He also thinks of little bookworms

Martin beyer receives the 2019 art scholarship offered by the city and county of bamberg. The bamberger city council thus followed in its session on 12. December the recommendation of the jury chaired by mayor christian lange (CSU), reports the city press office.

The bamberg art scholarship, which is offered annually in alternation between the city and the district, will be awarded for the fifth time in 2019 and is endowed with a total of 9,000 euros. It is intended to enable artists living in the region to concentrate on their artistic work for a few months in order to start, continue or complete a project. 20 artists of all ages and from all artistic disciplines applied for the 2019 scholarship.

The jury – mayor and cultural officer christian lange, district administrator johann kalb (CSU), tanja kinkel (E.T.A.-hoffmann laureate 2018), elisabeth kraus (cultural laureate 2018) and verena kriest (representative of the reigning cultural laureate kurzfilmtage bamberg e.V.) – decided unanimously for the application of martin beyer.

Promising project

In the statement it says: "beyer is a young author active in various literary fields, who can already show several publications (novels, non-fiction, children's books) and who has also been able to continuously develop his work as a multiple prize winner of international scholarships." the project with which he applied for the bamberg fellowship, the completion of the first volume of the children's book series "the adventures of kriuwik and his friends", the jury unanimously found the project to be very concrete, structured and promising, which aroused curiosity and with which the author wanted to devote himself more intensively to the field of children's literature.

The additional context of involving children and young people through collaborative reading and discussion of the manuscripts offers a further added value of the project, which was expressly emphasized by the jury and received special recognition. Also the approach to strengthen the finished volumes by the development of a handicraft set as well as accompanying material for the educational work. In perspective, the two following volumes are to be written. Martin beyer will again work together with the illustrator ekaterina pashchenko."

Kriuwik's adventure

Little (and coarse) bookworms can already look forward to the adventures of kriuwik, the little alien creature from the planet motus (lat. Sensation, but also movement and dance), which has to make an emergency landing with its rocket in a kindergarten in bamberg. Together, people and creatures are looking for a solution to get the rocket going again, or rather, to get it going again. The tank could fill. Despite the joy of the hospitality and helpfulness of coarse and small, kriuwik is sometimes lonely, sad and homesick. Kriuwik learns: "quite confusing, that with the feelings!"

After the end of the art grant in 2019, the author and the city of bamberg are planning another presentation in which beyer will present his new work.
