Thomas schmitt also uses 300-year-old wood

The skilled carpenter has always been fascinated by working with wood. In a conversation with pastor alfred beiber almost a year ago, the idea of building various nativity scenes began to grow in him. "There was no fixed plan, the project is developing in progress", he says today.

His enthusiasm for his new hobby of art is obvious. He benefits from the good relationship with his former employer, holzbau kaul. He learned his trade there and also obtains wood, some of it 300 years old, for his work on buildings for the day nursery.

A copy stands in the garden, in front of the house entrance. Schmitt points to the church, the fountain, the manger. 177 hours he has spent so far. He says the base is ready, but he can still put in a lot of work.

In his cozy workshop, he points to an unusual root crib that is being created there. Unusual as a structure, it gives an idea of the possible diversity in its further development. Thomas schmitt says that he learned a lot from his uncle karl kraus in hetzles when it came to building nativity scenes. Creches in the kindergartens of leutenbach, kunreuth and also in the school of mittelehrenbach are now testimony to his passion. From a passion that always generates new ideas and also allows him to rest as a crib maker.
