Fdp delegation learns from the people of kulmbach

Upper franconia's industry is one of the fastest growing in all of bavaria. This was emphasized by minister-president horst seehofer again recently. This may also be due to the fact that the region, located on the border of the former iron curtain, started from a comparatively low level. But numerous innovative ideas and unique concepts have meant that upper franconia is not in as bad a position as its reputation often suggests.

So it's no wonder that our neighbor in saxony wants to learn a thing or two from us. The dual university in kulmbach, for example. A delegation of saxonian and bavarian fdpls therefore visited the vocational school center in kulmbach to find out about the concept.

"We saxons also want to belong to the geberlanders one day. So it's only logical to look at the regions where things are going well", according to holger zastrow, chairman of the liberal faction in the saxon state parliament. "Not to complain, but to make the best out of the circumstances, that is our focus." On an educational tour of upper franconia, during which they visited kulmbach, hof and ludwigsstadt, he and his party colleagues looked for suggestions.

Better qualified
Principal joachim meier was pleased to show visitors around the vocational school center and explain the university dual system. The idea is to give young people both practical and theoretical training: they do an apprenticeship and a course of study in one. In the technical system planner/mechanical engineer course offered in kulmbach, students achieve a proper university degree (bachelor of engineering) in hof in 4.5 years as well as an apprenticeship in the company. The advantages for both sides: the graduates are better qualified and earn money despite their studies. Businesses get self-trained, academic specialists who no longer need to be trained separately. An advantage for the region: young people can stay.

Unfortunately, according to principal joachim meier, the acceptance of the course is still slow. Ten schoolchildren started this year. "In the long run, that's a little too little, klaus peter sollner, district administrator of kulmbach, also stressed that "companies are convinced of the importance of this training opportunity, and many are promoting it."
